I have something fun to share with you all today. I have a very dear friend who is incredibly talented in many areas of life. Cheryl is an accomplished seamstress (she made her daughter-in-law a coat for Christmas), an artistic decorator (her house was once pictured in an architectural magazine), an incredible cook (her son was trained as a chef at the Culinary Institute of America although I am pretty sure it was Cheryl who taught him everything he knows) and she is also a good accountant and systems consultant. In short, she is pretty much my idol!
Cheryl is part of the Digital Desktop Publishing program at the Kansas City Art Institute and as a homework project she created a book cover for a book called Blue Hole written by a local Kansas City author, Rolland Love. Isn’t it incredible?
Mr. Love liked the cover so much he used it when publishing his e-book recently and listed Cheryl as the graphic design artist. How cool is that???
I recently read the Blue Hole and it is a delightful short mystery novel about two brothers on a camping adventure at the Jacks Fork River in the Ozarks. Anyone who loved reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer or The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn will be thoroughly captivated by this quick read. The best part of all is that this e-book is absolutely free for you to download, either for your Kindle or in a PDF file to read on your pc. Click here for the link.
For my teacher friends, Cheryl tells me that “One of Rolland’s current projects is a website called “Imastory,” that helps children interview and write the life stories of their parents and grandparents. Imastory is fun, FREE, easy to use and has a lesson plan for educators and a question guideline for students. The program is a tool for schools, churches, not-for-profits and other organizations for creating not only life stories but also a friendlier and more productive community environment.”
There is a sequel to the Blue Hole called Rivers Edge that I plan on reading very soon. Congratulations Cheryl and thank you for letting me share this!
